Who Killed Sgt Pepper?

Once again Anton Newcombe and his prolific, ever changing music project that is the Brian Jonestown Massacre have posted a link to stream their upcoming record Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?. I've been listening all morning and the music is nothing short of brilliant. The record will be available for your personal collection 1/1/10, if WKSP? dropped a day sooner it would easily take the number 1 spot for my Top 10 Album Picks for 2009.

I highly recommend taking the time to check out each track (you have to click each one to listen) and watch the videos for the full experience.

Lately, I've been watching old Hip Hop videos which so vividly conjure up memories of Middle School dances and the days when I used to watch MTV.  Little Wayne and The Black Eyed Peas have nothing on mainstream hip hop from the 90s; they just don't make videos like they used to!

Jam Of The Day

Since Indie 103 went under, the state of the LA radio scene has been pretty dismal. Thanks to KCRW in the morning and 93.5 KDAY in the afternoon, I'm not completely reliant on the played-out CDs in my car.

On my drive home from work yesterday, KDAY dropped this bomb of a jam on me. Enjoy your trip to the 80's. This is the sole release from M.A.R.R.S. and quite the tune.

Little Dragon

I don't know too much about the Swedish band, Little Dragon, but I do know that I love their new release Machine Dreams. Hopefully, a US label finds a home for them in the States so their music is more accessible and touring will be a-plenty.

Mixtape Monday

Happy Monday!

I just stumbled upon this live mix from Rub N Tug's set at  Sunday's Best at The Brooklyn Yard. It's a more disco heavy set then the set I heard live at the Sarcastic Disco a few months back. The highlight is definitely the new Still Going track "Spaghetti Circus" soon to be released on DFA next week; it drops mid-way through the set after the C.O.M.B.I. edit of "Ma Baker". Eric Duncan (aka Dr. Dunks) is 1/2 of the master mind behind Rub N Tug, Still Going and C.O.M.B.I; his edits, remixes and original tracks are some of the best to come out in years.

I'll say it again, Still Going's new release is a burner! I first heard it last week during Runaway's set at The Roxy and couldn't find the track until this morning. To listen to "Spaghetti Circus", Click Here

FILTER Magazine's Summertime Y...

Satiating My Mood For Madchester and Industrial Music

My late 80's/early 90's dance collection has been on heavy rotation in my downtime. Here are videos from two of the greats: The Happy Mondays and Nitzer Ebb!

Nothing really beats this live performance of "Join in the Chant" (1989). Actually creating these teutonic baselines while dressed in cut off muscle tees and combat boots is priceless. And the sea of men in their nazi-germany crew cuts is quite a scene. Douglas McCarthy's dancing at the end pretty much sums it up.

I was too young to actually remember when Paul Oakenfold was cool and part of the first Balearic movement in England - but thank you Paul Oakenfold for producing Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches by The Happy Mondays. I can't seem to track down this 12" version of "Bob's Yer Unkle" for less than $40 and it's a shame because I haven't heard a recording this sexy in a long time.

Wild Beasts

I recently heard the new single "Hooting and Howling" from UK's Wild Beasts and instantly fell in love. The  Debukas remix for the single is even better and takes the music to the next level, creating a deep house sound that makes the enormous falsetto vocals that much more eerie. The Wild Beasts are already being coined the UK's version of  Hercules and Love Affair, which are big shoes to fill. Look out for their new release Two Dancers on Domino Records.
